Job Summary

The Principal of Alternative Risk Solutions will lead the development and execution of innovative risk management strategies tailored to non-traditional insurance markets. This role involves collaboration with clients to identify unique risk profiles, assess alternative risk transfer methods, and drive the implementation of customized solutions, including pooling solutions and captive insurance company strategies. The Principal will champion these solutions, especially in service to ministry partners, ensuring that each strategy aligns with their unique values and mission.

 

What You'll Do

  • Strategy Development:

    • Develop and implement strategic plans for alternative risk management services, including pooling solutions and captive insurance company structures.

    • Identify emerging trends and opportunities within the alternative risk landscape, with a focus on innovative, mission-aligned solutions.

  • Client Engagement:

    • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients and ministry partners, understanding their unique risk needs and mission.

    • Present tailored risk solutions, including pooling and captive insurance, and negotiate terms that align with client and ministry partner objectives.

    • Champion customized risk management strategies that support the long-term sustainability of ministry and organizational goals.

  • Product Innovation:

    • Lead the design and implementation of new alternative risk products, including those involving risk pooling and captive insurance models.

    • Collaborate with underwriting, actuarial, and claims teams to ensure cohesive product development and implementation.

  • Market Analysis:

    • Conduct in-depth analysis of market trends, pooling mechanisms, and competitive landscape, ensuring that captive insurance solutions and other alternative models are competitive and effective.

    • Utilize data analytics to support decision-making and strategy formulation for clients and ministry partners.

  • Team Leadership:

    • Mentor and develop junior staff and cross-functional teams, fostering expertise in pooling and captive insurance solutions.

    • Foster a collaborative environment that encourages innovation, professional growth, and the alignment of solutions with ministry missions.

  • Compliance and Governance:

    • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and internal policies, particularly in the context of captive insurance and risk pooling arrangements.

    • Maintain high standards of ethical conduct and risk management practices in all alternative risk strategies.

  • Managerial Responsibilities and Relationships:

    • Collaborate with internal stakeholders, including finance, legal, and operations teams, to ensure alignment on risk management initiatives.

    • Serve as a key liaison between the risk management team and senior leadership, providing strategic insights and recommendations on pooling solutions, captive insurance, and other alternative risk mechanisms.

    • Build and nurture strong relationships across departments and with external partners, fostering an environment of collaboration and alignment on key risk strategies.

 

What You'll Need

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Risk Management, Business Administration, or a related field; advanced degree preferred.

  • 10+ years of experience in risk management, insurance, or alternative risk solutions, with expertise in pooling solutions, captive insurance, self-insurance, or alternative risk financing.

  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills with a solid understanding of alternative risk transfer mechanisms, including risk pooling and captive solutions.

  • Proven ability to build relationships and influence stakeholders, particularly ministry partners, at all levels.

  • Excellent communication, presentation, and negotiation skills.

  • Familiarity with regulatory frameworks governing alternative risk solutions, particularly captive insurance companies preferred.

  • Proficient in data analytics tools and risk modeling techniques preferred.
